What is Flixonase Allergy nasal spray?
It is an aqueous spray which contains 50 micrograms fluticasone propionate as the active ingredient in each spray.
Also contains: Microcrystalline cellulose, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, dextrose, polysorbate 80, purified water, dilute hydrochloric acid and preservatives: benzalkonium chloride, phenylethylalcohol.
Each bottle contains 60 sprays.

How does this nasal spray work?
It contains a corticosteroid called fluticasone propionate. This has an anti-inflammatory action and works in a similar way to natural body chemicals to control inflammation. This spray helps to control your body's reactions to allergens in the environment.

Airborne allergies result from irritants that you breathe in through the nose and cause hayfever like symptoms
Flixonase allergy nasal spray has a direct action to relieve allergy symptoms where they start.
You can use it in advance to prevent symptoms if you know you are going to come into contact with anything that may trigger your allergy.
Warnings and Cautions
- Only use Flixonase in the nose. Avoid the eyes
- If symptoms persist, consult you doctor. Do not use Flixonase for more than 6 months without medical supervision.
- Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you have an infection in the nasal passages or sinuses
- Consult with your doctor or pharmacist before using Flixonase if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or are breast-feeding
- Consult your doctor if you have recently had an injury to, or surgery on, your nose, or problems with ulceration the nose
- Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have been treated with steroid injections or tablets, use steroid asthma or nasal inhalers, or eye/nose drops
- Consult your doctor if you experience eye problems that are not part of your normal hayfever symptoms such as acute eye pain or visual disturbance
- Consult your doctor if you develop signs or symptoms of infection such as fever, nasal or facial pain or swelling, discoloured or purulent (pus containing) nasal discharge or nasal bleeding
- Do not use Flixonase if you are allergic to Fluticasone Propionate or any other component of Flixonase
- Flixonase will not cause drowsiness and does not affect your ability to drive or use machinery. Flixonase will not interact with alcohol and is not addictive
- Keep out of the reach of children
- In some cases, possible side effects of this medication may include: Occasionally sneezing may follow the use of Flixonase but this is usually only temporary, Nasal bleeding, Very occasionally you may notice an unpleasant taste or smell, Temporary minor irritations such as an itching of the nose, throat and ears, sore throat and dry mouth
How to use Flixonase Allergy nasal spray
How much to use (dose)
Use as little as you need to keep allergy symptoms under control. Using the spray in the morning works best for most people
- The usual dose for adults aged 18 years and over 2 sprays in each nostril, once a day
- If your symptoms get better try 1 spray in each nostril once a day
- If symptoms are especially bad you may need 2 sprays in each nostril may be used twice a day (morning and evening) until your symptoms improve. Then go back to the usual dose.
- Do not use more than 4 sprays in each nostril in a day
- You may not get benefit straight away, it can take 3 or 4 days for the spray to have its full effect.
If you use too much: Don't worry.
Tell a pharmacist or doctor if you accidentally use too much.
If you miss a dose: Don't worry.
Wait, and use the spray again at the usual time. Don't take a double dose to make up.
If your allergy symptoms don't get any better in 7 days, stop using the spay and talk to a doctor.
If you know you are going to come into contact with anything that may trigger your allergy you can use this nasal spray in advance to prevent symptoms.
Use in children
Flixonase 24-Hour is not recommended for use in patients under 12 years of age.
